It's odd to grieve for someone who technically isn't really dead, but here Scripps is with that conundrum in mind. Hector is dead. He keeps saying it to himself over and over, but it never really sinks in. All he's left with is the inherent disbelief because it's not true if he hasn't lived it. Those are the thoughts on his mind as he heavily plays a quiet dirge on the main piano, ignoring any dark looks. He's permitted to have his melancholy, just as everyone else has their turn.

Maybe, somehow, this is God's punishment. He doesn't want to dwell on such a thing, especially given the events of New Years and the guilt of a sin on Scripps' chest. He contemplates the keys of the piano once more, laying down fingers in order to play an enduring chord. Such is music, such is life. It will fill up the world with beauty in temporary measures, but it's never to last -- not permanently.

Rachel heard the music from outside the doorway, which was why she walked inside. She was having to learn her way around all over again, and it was as if she'd been transported to yet another world, with all the confusion that entailed. The sound of a piano was familiar, at least, even if it was full of melancholy.

She recognized the boy at the piano - both because she'd met him briefly when she arrived, and because she'd seen him at rehearsals for Rocky Horror. Where she was... as difficult as it was for her to accept... a member of the chorus.

"Hi," she said, walking up to him, hands going to straighten her skirt.

Despite herself, Rachel laughed a little at that. "I guess I don't have much of a choice, do I? It's been... well. I'm sure you know. How long have you been here?"

"That... sounds about right," she said. And then offered, with sincerity, "You're a good performer." She'd picked up that much at least from rehearsals. And she thought it a good idea to befriend people here with talent, especially if she was going to get a glee club up and running. "If you need someone to rehearse with..."

Rachel smiled brightly at him. "Is there something you'd like to try? I know Rocky Horror as well, I played Janet when our glee club put it on." Well, almost put it on. That had turned into a bit of a mess.

"I do," said Rachel. "He's my best friend. I'm from the same place, and he's... well, he's very talented, of course." She was envious that he had a good part in the show, she couldn't help that, but she couldn't be too upset about it when it was Kurt.

"Is your friend a singer too?" she asked. "There's an awful lot of talent for such a small group of people, don't you think?" She made this sound like an impressive thing. Mostly. There was a part of her that thought if she was stuck here, the least she could do was be a big fish in a small pond.

"I just mean... on the island," said Rachel. "Do you know, I met someone who looks just like John Barrowman, and he says he can sing, too. Did you know Cole Porter was here? It's like... an episode of the Twilight Zone."
